Viscose Rugs or “Art” Silk rugs
Be careful when buying a rug marketed as silk, many are viscose rayon.
The viscose rayon is made of wood pulp and cotton by-products.
Man-made silk is generally a viscose fiber and can be sold at a high price.
The viscose fiber is very soft. To achieve this luxurious feel chemicals are used to break the fiber down hence the viscose fiber is very weak. This can cause problems when you try to clean by yourself as you can lose that luxurious feel along with the “shiny” look.
These type of rugs need special care and regular cleaning.
